BMI - Body Mass Index

Obesity is defined as an increase of body fat, above and beyond the normal allegiances. The usual measure today to assess the weight is the Body Mass Index (BMI).

This has previously used Boca index ousted as the BMI better with the body fat content kernel lire and in very large or very small people provides reliable values.

BMI calculation
The BMI (Body Mass Index) is calculated from the body weight in kilograms (kg) divided by height in meters (m) to the square.

BMI = body weight [kg] / body length [m] ²

Example: A person who 1m70 tall and 86 kg has a BMI of 86 / 1.7 ² = 86 / (1.7 x 1.7) = 29.8 kg / m

The WHO defines overweight as a BMI over 25, obesity as a BMI above the 30th although both gender and age differences. Thus one finds BMI tables with varying degree of detail how the two following examples illustrate:
