Implantable biosensors for diabetics
Published by | Filed under Bio Chemistry, Diabetes
The professor in chemistry and pharmacology, George Wilson, University of Kansas in the United States, working with diabetic patients implanted with biosensors. The method, painless, is to place under the skin of the abdomen of the patient a spike in the size of a human hair containing a biosensor, parasite connected to a laptop that monitors glucose levels in blood. Thus, a register is kept constant glucose levels that vary throughout the day. This is very useful to know the exact dose of insulin that requires the patient to avoid crises of hypoglycemia leading to unconsciousness, and those who were exposed type I diabetic when given too much insulin.
“Currently this type of technology is at the stage of clinical experience required for subsequent approval by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). The ideal would be to refine the implant and have a machine with a software that can analyze the data, and administered directly to the patient the proper amount of insulin, as you would if your pancreas to function normally. That is, take an electronic pancreas, “said Professor Wilson.
