Health Tip: If You Have Diabetes Travel
Diabetes does not prevent you from traveling, but still needs more training before starting their journey.
The American Diabetes Association offers these suggestions to help you plan before departure:
Make sure your diabetes is poorly controlled. Before a long trip, visit your doctor to be sure they are healthy, and vaccinations you need is a good idea.
Pack extra medications, syringes and other materials. Get a letter from your doctor, describes exactly what material you need a list of medications, and everything you have.
Always wear your bracelet or necklace that indicates how to treat diabetes.
When traveling to another country, learn to say key phrases in their native language, for example: “I have diabetes and ask for sugar or orange juice.
